Build My LIfe

Psalm 95:1-7

1 Come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come to him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
3 For the Lord is a great God,
a great King above all gods.
4 He holds in his hands the depths of the earth
   and the mightiest mountains.
5 The sea belongs to him, for he made it.
His hands formed the dry land, too.
6 Come, let us worship and bow down.
Let us kneel before the Lord our maker,
7     for he is our God.
We are the people he watches over,
   the flock under his care.

Wonder – Hillsong United

[Verse 1]

Have you ever seen the wonder

In the glimmer of first sight

As the eyes begin to open

And the blindness meets the light

If you have so say

[Chorus]

I see the world in light

I see the world in wonder

I see the world in life

Bursting in living colour

I see the world Your way

And I’m walking in the light

[Verse 2]

Have you ever seen the wonder

In the air of second life

Having come out of the waters

With the old one left behind

If you have so say

[Chorus]

[Post-Chorus]

I see the world in grace

I see the world in gospel

I see the world Your way

And I’m walking in the light

I’m walking in the wonder

You’re the wonder in the wild

Turning wilderness to wonder

Oo I say

I see the world in love

I see the world in freedom

I see the Jesus way

You’re the wonder in the wild

[Bridge]

I see the world Your way

And I’m not afraid to follow

I see the world Your way

And I’m not ashamed to say so

I see the Jesus way

And I’m walking in the light

[Chorus]

[Post-Chorus]

[Outro]

I see the world in love

I see the world in freedom

I see the Jesus way

You’re the wonder in the wild

Turning wilderness to wonder

You’re the wonder in the wild

Turning wilderness to wonder

Good Good Father – Housefires

[Verse 1]

Oh, I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think you’re like

but I’ve heard the tender whisper

of love in the dead of night

You tell me that you’re pleased

and that I’m never alone

[Chorus]

You’re a Good, Good Father

It’s who you are, It’s who you are

It’s who you are

and I’m loved by you

It’s who I am, It’s who I am

It’s who I am

[Verse 2]

I’ve seen many searching

for answers far and wide

But I know

we’re all searching for answers only you provide

Because you know

just what we need

before we say a word

[Chorus] x 2

[Bridge]

You are perfect in all of your ways

You are perfect in all of your ways

You are perfect in all of your ways to us

You are perfect in all of your ways

You are perfect in all of your ways

You are perfect in all of your ways to us

[Verse 3]

Love so undeniable I can hardly speak

Peace so unexplainable I can hardly think

As you call me deeper still

As you call me deeper still

As you call me deeper still

Into love love love

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

[Chorus]

Just as I am

[Verse 1]

Just as I am, without one plea

But that Thy blood was shed for me

And that Thou bidst me come to Thee

O Lamb of God, I come, I come

[Verse 2]

Just as I am, and waiting not

To rid my soul of one dark blot

To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot

O Lamb of God, I come, I come

[Chorus]

I come broken to be mended

I come wounded to be healed

I come desperate to be rescued

I come empty to be filled

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ the Lamb

And I’m welcomed with open arms

Praise God, just as I am

[Verse 3]

Just as I am, I would be lost

But mercy and grace my freedom bought

And now to glory in Your cross

Oh Lamb of God I come, I come

[Chorus] x 2

Reckless Love – Cory Asbury

[Verse 1]

Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me

You have been so, so good to me

Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me

You have been so, so kind to me

[Chorus]

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine

I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God, yeah

[Verse 2]

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me

You have been so, so good to me

When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me

You have been so, so kind to me

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

There’s no shadow You won’t light up

Mountain You won’t climb up

Coming after me

There’s no wall You won’t kick down

Lie You won’t tear down

Coming after me

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

Luke 15:1-7

Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!

3 So Jesus told them this story: 4 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. 6 When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

Build My Life – Housefires

[Verse 1]

Worthy of every song we could ever sing

Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring

Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Jesus, the Name above every other name

Jesus, the only One who could ever save

Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Oh, we live for You

[Chorus]

Holy, there is no one like You

There is none beside You

Open up my eyes in wonder

And show me who You are

And fill me with Your heart

And lead me into love to those around me

[Verse 1]

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

And I will build my life upon Your love

It is a firm foundation

And I will put my trust in You alone

And I will not be shaken

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

Mission Team Landed in Athens

The Mission team for the summer 2017 trip to Athens, Greece, safely arrived. This team of leaders and students is a diverse mix of majors, interests, and backgrounds. In particular, an international student is on the team!

The team intends to serve and share the love of Christ with refugees, with people desperately fleeing vicious war, famine, poverty, and oppression, escaping in the hopes that these other countries that portray themselves as good will accept them. They may receive food, water, and clothing from a country, but likely not personal love and kindness. The Blue Hens for Christ are passionate about reaching out and loving as Christ loved, serving as Christ served.

Sponsor a Refugee Family

As we have been preparing to do God’s work with refugee families in Athens Greece, an opportunity has risen for us to help share Christ’s sacrificial love at a 4 day retreat in Corinth.  The Omonia Church has asked us to join them on a retreat to “Love thy Neighbor,” spending time in prayer, listening and studying God’s word together.  The church, through much prayer and a lot of time outreaching, has handpicked 5 families they believe, in their words, “are already in love and following Christ, they just don’t know it yet.” This is a prime opportunity to help them let go of self and cultural restraints taking on Christ and Lord of their lives and become fully united with Christ as their Savior.

NOTE: We were not asked to do this but we felt called to help be even more of a blessing to these families and the church and would like to help the refugee families cover some of their costs to attend this Christ filled retreat.

Please help us sponsor and love on these refugee families; as of a week ago we have 10 parents ($215 each) and 17 children ($107 each) joining us for this event.  Be a part of their journey to Christ, and sponsor or partially sponsor someone today.

There are 2 ways you can help:

  1. Spend a Check by June 10th to the Newark Church (91 Salem Church Rd, Newark DE 19713), with “Athens Refugee Retreat” in the Memo. (You can also do this online by using your online Bill pay system, watch this video https://youtu.be/V2yeCR6C1bQ to learn how.)
  2. Or by Paypal and send me an email (rustysmail at gmail dot com) so we know where the donations goes to.

Love One Another

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing and outdoor

When a hate group came to the University of Delaware campus recently, Blue Hens for Christ students and members knew they could not simply shake their heads and walk away. BHC bought 900 roses to give out in the same area on the day following the appearance of the hate group. Notes attached to the rose stems referenced 1 Kings 19:11-13: God shows himself as a gentle and calming wind, not a chaotic storm.  The note also referenced 1 John 4:7-11: “Love one another, for love comes from God… He showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him… by taking away our wrongs. Since God loves us that much, we surely ought to love each other.” Passersby smiled and expressed their appreciation for what BHC was doing. All 900 roses were given out, and could be seen all over campus.

Even the rain could not dampen the passion of BHC students and friends to show and share the love of God!

2017 Athens Refugee Missions Trip

Blue Hens for Christ students will experience first-hand how God is working in the lives of refugees from 30 different countries who have gathered in Athens.  As a result of civil uprising, violence, famine, and hunger, many families from Northern Africa and the Middle East continue to flee their homes seeking refuge within European boarders. For these asylum seekers, Greece has become a gateway into the European Union. Upon arrival however, smuggled refugees are faced with the reality of a crippled economy and little to no infrastructure to assist with the basic necessities of food, housing, and medical attention.

Hellenic Ministry’s Health & Social Center consists of a medical clinic and learning center specifically designed for refugee women and children. We provide practical services in the form of medical care, language classes, and various social services. By meeting some of these most basic physical needs and equipping women with various skill sets, it is our desire to to offer displaced and distressed refugees hope in very dark circumstances.

Please consider joining us! There are many possibilities for one to serve in this ministry. Whether you are a trained medical provider, have a passion for teaching and discipleship, or simply have a heart to serve with children in the nursery, we have need for you! Come partner with us in ministering to the lives of people who have essentially lost all hope.

Location: Athens Greece
Organizations: Good Samaritan w/ Hellenic Ministries
and the Omonia Church of Christ
Dates: June 19 – June 29 2017
Ministry Focus: Local Refugee Support, Evangelism
Who may apply for this program: Participants in Blue Hens for Christ, and UD Students

You’re Invited!

You’re invited to come to the 9 AM Sunday service at the Newark Church of Christ, in the Multipurpose Room (just ask anyone you see where it is)! This service features instrumental music, a powerful lesson based on the Bible, followed by Communion and breaking up into smaller groups for discussion and prayer. The atmosphere is close-knit and relaxed; we invite you to come as you are. Coffee and pastries will be available after the service!

Consider participating in one of several Bible study classes at 10:30 AM. The second Sunday service then starts at 11:15 AM in the main auditorium. Feel free to join a Life Group meeting after the second service for lunch and conversation – ask a service leader or Elder about it!
